Best gravel bikes under $2,000 in Australia

Picks and prices checked 2 November 2026. Chosen by BikeFinder from 14 bikes in our catalogue using the criteria below. Desk research from published specs, not ride tests.

Cube Nuroad Pro

Gravel bikes are the most versatile bikes you can buy: fast enough for road rides, tough enough for fire trails and practical for commuting or touring. Under $2,000 the differences come down to tyre clearance, gearing and brakes.

We compared every gravel bike on BikeFinder priced up to $2,000. Our picks are below, and the full table lists every qualifying model, cheapest first. To filter by tyre clearance and climbing gear yourself, use the Gravel Finder.

How we chose

  • Price shown on BikeFinder of $2,000 or less, and still on sale.
  • Room for tyres of at least 40 mm.
  • A low climbing gear (around 0.9 or lower) for loaded or steep riding.
  • Mounts for bottles, bags or racks, and hydraulic brakes where possible.

Prices are the ones shown on each bike page: a checked Australian retailer price where we have one, otherwise the RRP. They change often, so confirm with the seller. Some links to retailers are affiliate links; they do not change our picks.

Tyre clearance decides what the bike can do

40 mm tyres handle most Australian fire trails; 45 to 50 mm adds comfort and grip on loose or corrugated surfaces. Clearance figures are on each bike page and in the Gravel Finder.

Gearing

Gravel and loaded touring need lower gears than road riding. A lowest gear around 0.9 or below helps on steep, loose climbs. 1x drivetrains are simpler; 2x gives smaller steps between gears.

Brakes

Most gravel bikes under $2,000 use mechanical disc brakes, which work but need more hand force and adjustment. Hydraulic brakes are the most noticeable upgrade if your budget stretches.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a gravel bike and a road bike?

Gravel bikes have room for wider tyres (usually 40 mm or more), lower gears, more relaxed geometry and more mounts for bags and racks. Road bikes are lighter and faster on sealed roads.

Can a gravel bike be used for commuting?

Yes. Wide tyres, low gears and rack mounts make most gravel bikes excellent commuters.
