Aventon's first full suspension e-MTB lands in Australia at $8,599
Aventon has been a familiar name in North American e-bikes since 2018, but it only arrived in Australia this year, and its first big move is straight into full suspension electric mountain bikes. The Current EXP, brought in by Sydney based online retailer BikesOnline, is now on sale locally at $8,599.
BikesOnline is best known here for Polygon and Marin, and it sells direct rather than through a dealer network. It is Aventon's exclusive Australian distributor, so sales, service and after sales support all run through BikesOnline.
What is in the build
The Current EXP pairs a carbon front triangle with an alloy rear end, 29 inch wheels, 140mm of rear travel and a 150mm RockShox Lyrik Select fork. The drivetrain is a SRAM S1000 Eagle AXS Transmission, with SRAM Maven brakes and Maxxis Minion tyres. Flow Mountain Bike's test bike weighed 24.2kg without pedals.
Instead of a Bosch, Shimano or Yamaha motor, the Current EXP runs Aventon's own Ultro X mid drive. Aventon claims 110Nm of torque and 750W of peak power, rising to 120Nm and 850W in a 30 second boost mode, paired with an 800Wh removable battery and a touchscreen display built into the top tube. The system also has GPS and 4G tracking, an alarm, and hill start assist.
Where it sits on price
At $8,599, the Current EXP lands between the Giant Stance E+ 1 at $7,499 and the top of Norco's Sight VLT Bosch A range at $8,699. It is also within $100 of the Amflow PR Carbon Pro at $8,699, which runs the DJI Avinox motor. Riders shopping in this bracket now have a new option that is not another Bosch or Shimano powered alloy frame.
What it means for buyers
A new brand entering Australia's full power e-MTB market at this price puts pressure on the established players to justify their numbers. Before you buy, weigh the Current EXP's in house Ultro X motor and BikesOnline's direct model against the dealer networks and proven drive systems on rivals from Giant, Norco and Amflow, and check the motor's continuous rating and compliance labelling if you plan to ride it anywhere other than private trails and bike parks.
