Colnago G5-X gravel bike gets a lighter frame and room for 53mm tyres

Colnago revealed the G5-X on 7 October 2026. BikeRadar describes it as a V5Rs for the dirt, meaning it borrows from the brand's road racer. Colnago claims the frame weighs 950g in a medium (size 51), down from 1,050g to 1,120g depending on size. The fork is claimed at 420g, and a size 48 Red XPLR AXS build is claimed at 7.2kg with 50mm tyres.
What changed
Tyre clearance is 53mm, measured by Colnago against the 6mm road ISO standard rather than the 4mm mountain bike standard. BikeRadar's test bike had room to spare with 50mm Goodyear XPLR Inter tyres. Geometry is a little more relaxed, with a 71 degree head angle on larger sizes (70 degrees on smaller ones), a longer wheelbase, 80mm bottom bracket drop and 52mm fork rake.
The frame has fork mounts, triple bottle cage mounts, top tube bento box mounts and down tube storage. Fidlock magnetic low profile cages come standard, with a replacement plate if you prefer normal cages. The seatpost is a 27.2mm slim carbon design that works with gravel dropper posts, and the frame also takes 2x drivetrains, including a 50/34 crankset.
Price and availability
BikeRadar lists European and UK pricing only, with the US dollar price marked to be confirmed. The top model (SRAM Red AXS XPLR, Zipp 303 XPLR SW wheels) is GBP 9,999 or EUR 9,200. The entry model (SRAM Rival AXS XPLR, Vision TC45 carbon wheels) is GBP 5,299 or EUR 4,900. The article gives no release date, and no Australian price has been published.
What it means for buyers
This is a premium race gravel bike, and the starting price in Europe is well above most gravel bikes sold here. Colnago is stocked by Australian retailers, so local pricing should follow, but check availability with a dealer before planning around the overseas figures. When comparing, the useful numbers are tyre clearance, frame weight and mounts. Put the G5-X next to other gravel race bikes on BikeFinder once Australian pricing is confirmed.
