Cube recalls carbon crank arms on its 2026 electric mountain bikes

Cube has issued an Australian recall covering the ACID MTB Hybrid Gen4 Pro carbon crank arms fitted to a range of its 2026 model year electric mountain bikes. The recall is listed on the ACCC Product Safety register (reference PRA 2025/20593) and was confirmed locally by Bicycle Network on 27 May 2026.

What is wrong

The fault is in the aluminium threaded pedal insert bonded into the carbon crank arm. Cube says the insert can suddenly detach from the crank body while riding. If a crank fails mid ride and the rider crashes, the ACCC warns there is a risk of serious injury or death. The affected cranks were fitted to bikes in the Cube AMS and Cube Stereo e-mountain bike ranges, sold before 8 May 2026, in 160mm, 165mm, 170mm and 175mm lengths.

What owners should do

Owners are told to stop riding the affected bike immediately and take it to the place of purchase or an authorised Cube dealer for a free repair. Cube is offering two paths: a temporary aluminium crank now that is upgraded to a carbon replacement free of charge once stock arrives (Cube has flagged around 12 months), or a permanent swap to an aluminium crank plus a free e-bike light as compensation.

What it means for buyers

This is a component recall on a specific carbon crank, not a fault with the whole Cube range, and it only affects 2026 AMS and Stereo models bought before early May.
