Giant lifts September revenue 3%, Merida falls 26%: what Taiwan's numbers say

Giant Manufacturing reported September operating revenue of NT$5.4 billion (about US$169 million), up 3% on September last year, according to Bicycle Retailer's 12 October report. Over the first three quarters, Giant's revenue is still down 5%.

Merida down, parts makers mixed

Merida Industry reported September sales of NT$1.7 billion, down 26%, and revenue for the year so far is down 15.4%. Unit shipments were steadier: 87,687 bikes in September (down 4%) and 864,391 for the year to date (down 2%). That gap suggests fewer or lower value bikes going out the door, rather than a collapse in volume.

What this does and does not tell you

These are Taiwanese company results. They are not Australian sales data, and neither Giant nor Merida has said anything in these reports about local pricing. A slow year for the big manufacturers can mean more competition on price and more older stock being cleared, but that is a general pattern, not a promise of discounts on any particular model.

What it means for buyers

If you are shopping for a Giant, Liv or Merida bike, compare current Australian prices, model years and stock levels across retailers on BikeFinder before you buy, and check whether the model you want is the current year or run out stock.
