Sydney's Circular Quay Bike Hub to close after just one year

The Circular Quay Bike Hub at 178B George Street in Sydney's CBD will permanently close on October 31, according to a notice from operator Secure Parking, barely 13 months after the City of Sydney owned facility opened in September 2025. New subscriptions, including weekly, quarterly and annual packages, are no longer being sold, and existing annual members have been told to call Secure Parking's customer service line for a pro rata refund.

A short life for a flagship facility

The hub was billed as the only public end of trip facility of its kind in the city centre when it opened, offering parking for 200 bikes including larger cargo bikes, 400 lockers, 28 showers and a clothes dryer, accessible 24 hours a day for members via Ah Toy Lane off the Pitt Street cycleway. Casual parking cost $5 a day or $60 a month for a membership. At the opening, then Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the facility was meant to make riding to work a realistic option for people whose workplaces do not have their own showers or lockers.

What happens now

Secure Parking's closure notice does not give a reason for shutting the hub down, and neither the City of Sydney nor Secure Parking has published further detail beyond the October 31 deadline and refund process. That leaves commuters who relied on the facility, particularly cargo bike and e-bike riders without secure storage at work, needing to find alternative parking and shower access in the city centre before the closure date.
